The iconic historical Monogram “AV”, created at the end of the 19th century, makes a reappearance in the new line of travel items. THE HISTORY OF THE FAMOUS MAISON ALEXANDRE VELAY
Bourget, October 25, 1820 concludes a commodo and inconvenience investigation opened for the establishment in the town of an canvas-fabric factory, route de Flandres. It belongs to Claude-Antoine Bourg, residing in Paris. He was mayor of Le Bourget from 1828 to 1842. When he died on August 21, 1843, his wife Marie Françoise Boituzet obtained authorization to enlarge the buildings of this factory. Manufacture founded by virtue of a royal ordinance of April 26, 1826.
During the war of 1870, the Prussians took control of Le Bourget, which was emptied of its inhabitants. The oilcloth factory is one of the places where fighting took place. It is then located on the road to Drancy (current av. Jean-Jaurès).
In 1890, Alexandre Velay, born May 11, 1865 in Paris, took over the activity of canvas-fabric manufacturing in Bourget and opened the workshop for the manufacture of travel items and trunks.Alexandre Velay is a craftsman, who established himself at the age of 29 as a emballeur at 4 avenue d’Antin, Paris 8th (which was also his home). He is one of the pioneer and innovator of the canvas-monogram at the end of the 19th century.
The “AV” jacquard fabric makes its appearance on the “Alexandre Velay” travel trunks.
